Agriculture, Food and Beverages

Agriculture, food and beverage industries are among the most dynamic sectors of Turkish economy which involves the public as a whole. Innovative and sustainable agriculture, food and beverage industry policy is one of the Turkey’s long-term policy examples. Recently, with the renewal of regulations in the framework of full EU membership policy, Turkey’s agriculture and food sectors made great progress and increased their share in country’s total exports.

With the youngest and the most dynamic population in Europe, food and beverage markets in Turkey continue to grow with each passing year. Furthermore, due to its geographical proximity to growing markets, Turkey remains the center of attraction for international investors and food manufacturers.

Agriculture, and food and beverage sectors are intertwined and complementary sectors. It refers to a framework covering 2.2 million producers, about 13 thousand producer organizations and more than 30 thousand small and large size companies.

The interventions and supports of governments in the agricultural sector in the 21st century need to be handled from a wider perspective covering the food system, beyond the characteristics of agricultural production. Turkey aims to become one of the five largest producers in the agricultural sector on a global scale by 2023.

Towards this objective, in order to provide a more effective connection with food production while determining priorities in agricultural supports and incentives to achieve a better functioning of the food system and to increase productivity in agriculture, Turkey continues its structural efforts on important issues such as restructuring of cooperatives, increasing the efficiency of logistics and intermediacy services from farm to fork, and expanding packaged food consumption.
